Maybe you’re not tired. Maybe you’re uninspired.
What Japan (and one ancient principle) reminded me about momentum, burnout, and what really matters.
True story:
I just got back from ten days in Japan.
It was everything I needed—and didn’t know I needed.
Beautiful. Disorienting. Uncomfortable. ALIVE in a way that woke up my senses.
There’s a quote by Anthony Bourdain that’s been sitting with me:
“Travel is not reward for working, it’s education for living.”
And wow—did I get schooled.
Not just on sushi etiquette or how to navigate a train station in Tokyo at rush hour…
But on my relationship with myself.
More on that in the full recap coming soon on The Well Podcast.
Until then, I want to leave you with one Japanese concept that landed deeply:
Ikigai.
Your reason for being.
The thing that gets you up in the morning.
As we stand at the edge of Q2, spring cleaning our minds and calendars, this feels like the real work:
Re-aligning with our why.
Here’s the essence of ikigai:
Do what you love.
Do what you’re good at.
Do what the world needs.
Do what you can be paid for.
If something in your life feels off—
It’s likely one of these is out of alignment.
So here’s your Q2 vibe check:
✨Are you feeling how you want to feel?
✨Are you getting the results you said you wanted?
✨Is your life moving in the direction that matters to you—or just moving fast?
Because you can go fast… in the wrong direction, and have to start over.
You can have momentum… and still feel stuck if you’re living someone else’s truth.
Get honest with yourself. If you’re not getting what you said you wanted…
Chances are…
You don’t need more motivation.
You don’t need to push harder.
You don’t need another productivity hack.
You need alignment.
Because alignment is the strategy.
Before you sprint into Q2, ask yourself:
Am I being, or just doing?
Is this congruent with who I said I want to become?
What patterns are showing up again—and what might they be trying to teach me?
Maybe it’s not hard because you’re off track.
Maybe it’s hard because you’re close.
Maybe you’ve never been here before—and that’s why it feels unfamiliar.
Pause.
Recalibrate.
Then move.
Want help with that?
I created a Quarterly Check-In Guide with a few of my favorite questions to help you reset, reflect, and move into Q2 with clarity and confidence.
Just reply to this email with the word "Reflect" and I’m happy to send it your way.
